Summer Accelerator Program

Summer Accelerator Program

In response to the pandemic’s effect on learning and fitness levels, this program in partnership between ICT and YFDS, is designed to support holistic growth and development to further academic and athletic achievement by providing students with small group academic support, individualized reading and writing support, health and wellness activities, and tennis lessons.

In this program, students in grades 2-5 will be split into small groups of no more than 5 students. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at V3 Sports Center, each small group will rotate through ReadWorks reading and writing activities, direct literacy instruction, health and wellness, and sports enrichment. On Tuesdays and Thursdays at Webber Park, students will rotate through tennis, other sports, and STEAM activities. This program has limited spots available - only 15 spots per morning and 15 spots per afternoon.

The cost of the program is $125 per 4 week session, but to prevent cost from being a barrier, scholarships are available for all in need.

Register for one or both 4 week sessions!

The program is Monday-Friday each week.

How will my child be kept safe? Safety is ICT and YFDS’ number one priority.
InnerCity Tennis & Learning Program Policies

What should my child bring? Mask, Water bottle, Closed toed shoes, Laptop or Tablet with charger (optional and only for Mon/Wed/Fri)

What happens in the case of rain on Tuesdays and Thursdays at North Commons Park? Tuesdays and Thursdays of the Summer Accelerator Program will be located at North Commons Park. If persistent rain is expected on a Tuesday or Thursday, staff will communicate with all parents by 8:00 AM that the program will be moved to V3 Sports Center. If it rains while students are at North Commons Park, everyone will take shelter in the North Commons park house.

When will my child need to wear a mask? Students need to bring a mask everyday. Staff and students are expected to comply with state and local COVID-19 guidelines. When indoors, students are required to wear a mask and social distance. When outdoors, students are not required to wear a mask as long as they maintain 3 feet of distance between themselves and other students, and 6 feet of distance between themselves and staff.

What is ReadWorks? ReadWorks is an online resource of reading passages and lesson plans for students of all levels K-12. The non-profit was founded with the goal of improving reading comprehension by bringing the latest in literacy teaching research into the classroom. Texts, both fiction and non-fiction, are sortable by keywords, grade or lexile levels, or by the specific skill or strategy that a teacher would like her students to address (e.g. “cause and effect,” “plot,” “theme” etc.) All passages are accompanied by related question sets. ReadWorks also has many differentiation supports allowing teachers to tailor reading activities to each individual student’s needs.
