Mason was born and raised in Mankato, MN, where he started playing tennis at the age of 4, and quickly fell in love with the sport. He could never get enough tennis, and began coaching at the age of 14 in order to afford more opportunities in tennis.
After high school, Mason attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, where he played four years of varsity tennis. Each summer since 2015, Mason has worked at Tennis and Life Camps at Gustavus. His experiences at Tennis and Life Camps molded him into the coach and person he is today and fueled his passion for making tennis more accessible for diverse and underserved communities, improving the inclusivity of the sport, and using tennis as a vehicle to change the lives of others.
Mason joined InnerCity Tennis in the fall of 2018 as a junior development coach in our Outreach programs. Later, he took on the role of Northside Program Coordinator and helped to develop impactful and innovative programming for our Schools & Partners participants.
In February 2021 Mason took on the new role of Manager of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at InnerCity Tennis. He is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of quality youth programming to serve a diverse population of youth and ensuring that ICT meets the highest standards of diversity, equity, and inclusion across the organization. Mason is excited to combine his love of tennis and passion for using the sport to combat societal inequities.
Mason also serves as Chair of USTA Northern’s Diversity and Inclusion Planning Committee (2021-22) and is a Member of the USTA Northern Board of Directors (2021-22).
