2016 was a great year for InnerCity Tennis, and we are committed to making 2017 even better.

2016 Highlights & Looking Ahead to 2017

This year, InnerCity Tennis Foundation is celebrating 65 years of serving Minneapolis youth, 1952-2017. As I reflect on how much the organization has grown, I can’t help but stop and recognize that our work simply wouldn’t be possible without the support and commitment of our generous community of players, donors, and volunteers. So today, on behalf of all of us at InnerCity Tennis Foundation and the kids we serve, I’d like to say, “Thank you!”  2016 was a great year for InnerCity Tennis, and we are committed to making 2017 even better.

Our new BIG Gym! program invites area schools to bring their students to the tennis center to experience ICT’s unique programming on full size tennis courts and in our Best Buy 21st Century classroom.

ICT’s new Excellence Team provides extended training and travel opportunities for kids with the potential to compete in national and international competition. After receiving a generous donation from the USTA Foundation, ICT is one of only eleven NJTL chapters in the United States with an Excellence Team.

Our growing TopSpin program is an after-school leadership training program for underserved middle and high school students from diverse backgrounds. They receive tennis instruction, educational support, mentorship, and health and wellness instruction free of charge at ICT’s Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center.

ICT continues to deliver our nationally recognized early childhood physical education program, Kidspeed®, and the USTA’s Academic Creative Engagement (ACE) program (math, literacy, and social/emotional wellness) at no cost to underserved elementary students at the following schools:
  • Hmong International Academy in North Minneapolis (Kidspeed® and ACE)
  • Bdote Learning Center in SE Minneapolis (Kidspeed® and ACE)
  • McKnight Head Start School in S Minneapolis (Kidspeed®)
  • Fraser (Spero) Academy in NE Minneapolis (Kidspeed®)
  • Lake Nokomis-Wenonah Elementary in SE Minneapolis (Kidspeed® to autism classes)
  • Green Central Elementary in SE Minneapolis (Kidspeed®)
ICT has recently expanded outreach programming in North Minneapolis through our new partnerships with Hospitality House Youth Development on Logan Avenue North and Prodeo Academy, a K-8 public charter school on 40th Avenue Northeast. Teams of ICT instructors deliver tennis and Kidspeed® programming free of charge to youth ages 6-10 at both locations.

Thank you, again, for playing, donating, and volunteering at ICT, where you help us fulfill our mission every day. Maybe there’s someone special in our ICT community that you’d like to thank, as well -- a staff member, a coach, a fellow player or volunteer. If so, we invite you to share your sentiments, and we’ll be sure to pass along your message:  Share a Thank You.

Happy 65th Anniversary to everyone in our InnerCity Tennis Community. Here’s to another great year of serving kids across Minneapolis!
